Latest News New Cavities For Port C on GB7SF

 GB7SF D-star here in Sheffield

The GB7SF Team have been looking around for Cavities, so that the repeater would be more sensitive for our HT and Mobile users on receive, as well as improve the de sense from TX to RX.

As most of the users will know we have only been running the repeater on low power, 1 to 2 watts output, with such little power from the repeater, I think it would be good assumption that as for as the area that its covering most of us have been amazed at the coverage.

So Steve M1ERS had a conversation with Ernie G4LUE whom as very kindly sold us a 4 Cavities and each one 10 inches wide.

So it was arranged that we take a trip up to Ernie’s home qth and have a look at the Cavities.

We finally got there, and Ernie gave us a very warm welcome, then proceeded to check the Cavities on his Scope, he as set them up for us onto the GB7SF TX/RX, this is were the learning curve goes of the scale, and definitely not for the faint hearted.

Next problem was now realising that the Cavities wasn’t that small, would I get them into my little Corsa, only just.

This will give GB7SF a total attenuation of -90dB, so the R2D2 problem, we hope will disappear, So accessing for the HTs and the mobile users will become a lot easier, plus our users that or on the fringe areas of Sheffield will find it easier to access the repeater.

We have sent away for the n-type plugs, we then need to make several leads up to connect the Cavities up to the repeater, then tweak them up a little.

So please be patient with the Team as we or working flat out in the background to improve the running of the repeater.
